There’s a big change happening in the world of phone service in India. BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) has officially launched its “Swadeshi 4G” network in India. This is a huge deal because it means India is now using its own technology, built entirely inside the country, to run its mobile network.
This move is about more than just getting better service; it’s about self-reliance. By putting up nearly 98,000 new 4G towers, all made with Indian tech, BSNL is no longer depending on companies from other countries. This achievement puts India on a short list of nations that can build their entire mobile network system from scratch.

Built By India, For India
Building this network was a major team effort, finished in less than two years. The main parts of the system were developed by following Indian companies:
- C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics): Created the main brain of the network, known as the Core Network.
- Tejas Networks: Built the Radio Access Network (RAN), which includes the physical towers and equipment that send and receive signals.
- TCS (Tata Consultancy Services): Handled the job of putting all these different parts together and making sure the system works across the country.
This all-Indian solution improves security and ensures that India controls its own digital future.
Easy Upgrade to 5G
Here is the best news for Indian users: the new BSNL 4G network is already 5G-ready, which means you faster and easier upgrade to 5G Network.
This is possible because the system is built with a modern, software-based design. Think of it like a computer program: BSNL can switch the entire system from 4G to 5G capability just by updating the software, without having to replace most of the physical equipment.
This smart design means that when the time comes to launch 5G, BSNL can do it quickly and affordably. You will get faster speeds sooner.
Connecting More People in Remote Areas
The launch of Swadeshi 4G is already making a difference, especially in villages and rural areas that have been hard to reach.
- The network is reaching over 22 million people, including about 2 million who are getting online for the very first time.
- Better service helps people in key areas: farmers can check prices, students can take online classes, and doctors can talk to patients remotely.
This project also helps the country’s economy by creating many new jobs for people building the equipment and running the network right here in India.
Preparing for the Next Big Thing (6G)
The success of BSNL’s 4G project is just the first step. It is setting the foundation for India’s plan to lead the way in 6G technology by the year 2030.
By building its own networks today, India is proving it can be a leader, not just a customer, in the world of mobile technology. This puts the country in a powerful position to help shape and sell the communication tools of the future.
