Motorola Kicks Off Android 16 Rollout in India for Premium Edge Series

Motorola has officially started rolling out its much-anticipated Android 16 operating system update for several of its top-tier smartphones in India. The company is starting with its flagship Edge series, delivering new features centered on smarter notification management, enhanced connectivity, and powerful security tools.

The first three devices in India scheduled to receive the Android 16 update over-the-air (OTA) are, Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, Motorola Edge 50 Pro.

Key New Features in Android 16

The update introduces a host of improvements to the user experience, integrating the latest from Google’s Android 16 OS alongside Motorola’s own custom enhancements:

  • Notification Auto Grouping: A massive quality-of-life upgrade, this feature intelligently manages and groups multiple alerts from the same App, drastically reducing notification clutter.
  • Instant Hotspot: This allows other devices signed into the same Google account, such as tablets and Chromebooks, to automatically connect to the smartphone’s hotspot without needing to manually input a password.
  • Modes Hub: A new, centralized feature that lets users create personalized profiles (like ‘Sleeping,’ ‘Driving,’ or ‘Working’) to customize notification rules, app behavior, and system settings based on their current activity.
  • Enhanced Security: The update brings Moto Secure 5.5, which includes a new “Secure Power-Off” function designed to prevent unauthorized shutdown of a lost or stolen phone, increasing the chances of recovery. General system security is also boosted with Google’s new “Advanced Protection.”
  • Improved Accessibility: The update also includes expanded options for better Hearing Device Support and detailed system-level controls for audio adjustments and text-to-speech improvements.

T.M. Narasimhan, Managing Director, Motorola India, commented on the launch, stating, “The rollout of Android 16 on our smartphones demonstrates our commitment to providing faster, smarter, and more secure updates. Starting with our premium Edge series… We are ensuring our users experience the very best of hardware and software innovation combined.”

Motorola confirmed that the Android 16 update will be progressively extended to more devices in its portfolio across India in the coming months.
