What’s New, Which Phones, and When You’ll Get OriginOS 6

Vivo is gearing up for a big software shift. The company is retiring its long-running Funtouch OS in many markets and rolling out OriginOS 6, a completely new OS built on Android 16.

Vivo has formally announced OriginOS 6, its next custom skin built atop Android 16, bringing a major UI changes, performance upgrades, smarter AI tools, and tighter cross-device integration with other devices.

OriginOS 6 appears strongly inspired by modern “glass” aesthetics. In teaser videos and early leaks, the UI emphasizes translucency, depth effects, soft shadows, and a more layered feel.

The lock screen, especially, receives a redesig such as the clock is now dynamic and adjustable in position, with a transparent look that blends into the background. There’s also a Quick Settings and notifications are also expected to adopt stacking behaviors and smooth transitions. Some observers already compare the aesthetic to the “Liquid Glass” style seen in iOS 26.

Additionally, there’s a push toward smarter, context-aware AI intelligence. OriginOS 6 is expected to support features like Live Photo AI Removal, AI Voice Prompts, and enhanced query/assistant tools. The OS may also support better cross-device usability, letting Vivo/Nex devices interface more seamlessly with iPads and other screens.

Preview Program & Rollout Plan

Vivo has already opened a preview program for select models like the Vivo X200 Pro and iQOO 13, allowing users to test early builds of OriginOS 6. These participants help catch bugs before the broader public release.

In terms of timing, OriginOS 6 officially launched in China at a developer event. The global rollout is slated for October 15, 2025, when the update will begin replacing Funtouch OS across markets. Vivo’s upcoming flagship phones, like the X300 series, are expected to ship with OriginOS 6 out of the box. Older devices will follow in waves based on hardware compatibility and region.

Rollout Timeline & Eligible Devices

The rollout for the OriginOS 6 will be in phases, starting from November 2025 and extending through May 2026.
