Vi Launches ‘Vi Protect’ Service to Battle Spam Calls, Cyber Threats, and Phishing

Vi (Vodafone Idea) has officially launched a new security solution called ‘Vi Protect’ for its subscribers in India. This service is aimed at tackling the growing industry of spam calls, phishing attempts, and various cyber threats that target mobile users.

The move comes as unsolicited commercial communication and nowadays online fraud become major issues for smartphone owners. Vi is positioning this feature as an essential layer of digital defense.

Key Features of Vi Protect

The new ‘Vi Protect’ service is expected to include several features designed to keep users safe:

  • Spam Call and SMS Blocking: A core function of Vi Protect is to automatically identify and block or flag calls and text messages from known telemarketers and fraudulent numbers.
  • Phishing and Malware Protection: The service is also designed to scan and prevent users from accidentally accessing malicious websites, phishing links, or downloading malware, often delivered through SMS or popular messaging apps.
  • Real-time Alerts: Users will likely receive immediate notifications when a potential threat is detected, allowing them to avoid interacting with suspicious communication.

This initiative is a significant step by a major telecom operator to move beyond just providing network connectivity and proactively offering digital security tools directly to its customer base.

Vi is expected to announce the full rollout details, pricing (if any), and how subscribers can activate the ‘Vi Protect’ service very soon. This could set a new standard for how mobile carriers help protect users from digital crime on the Android platform.
