Samsung is reportedly developing a massive 17-inch foldable device capable of collapsing into an 8-inch tablet form factor. According to details shared by tech tipster KRO, the South Korean company is experimenting with much larger display dimensions for its flexible device lineup.

At the center of the hardware is a flexible OLED panel paired with Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) technology. This flexible display construction allows the panel to expand up to 17 inches when fully opened, while folding down to a far more compact 8-inch footprint.

The vast difference between its expanded 17-inch state and folded 8-inch tablet size points to a hybrid concept intended to combine a large screen with portable tablet functionality. The integration of Ultra-Thin Glass is set to support the flexible OLED material across the expansive surface area.

Consumers will need to be patient, as the hardware is still years away from a commercial release. Current expectations indicate that Samsung’s 17-inch foldable device will not hit the market until 2027 or later.
