Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Unveiled – 30% CPU Boost, 25% GPU Performance Upgrade, and Up to 240 FPS Gaming Capability

Qualcomm officerly introduced its latest flagship processor i.e. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023 event in Hawaii.

Qualcomm’s new Kryo CPU with five gold cores promises 30% performance improvements and 20% improved power efficiency with new 1-5-2 microarchitecture as compared to its older generation. The new CPUs also comes with the 1 x Prime core at up to 3.3 GHz, with 5 x Performance cores at up to 3.2 GHz and 2 Efficiency cores at up to 2.3 GHz.

If we talk about the GPUs part, this time around Qualcomm’s Adreno GPUs are promising to have 25% better performance and 25% power efficiency, plus 40% better Ray Tracing, compared to the predecessor as compared to its previous generations. Apart from the performance the new GPUs are capable of giving user as low as  1Hz Variable Refresh Rate in DPU for low power display modes.

In terms of gaming, with the new Qualcomm Adreno GPU you will have full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as lifelike, multi-source lighting powered by Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Global Illumination, a first-in-mobile feature, thanks to Unreal Engine 5.2. The chip also supports up to 240 FPS on 240 Hz displays.

Apart from such gaming performance one can enjoy Qualcomm’s new upscaling technology which will be upscaling game scenes up to 8K external displays with Snapdragon Game Super Resolution and the Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 generates even higher quality scenes, doubling the frame rate while maintaining the same power consumption.

In the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023, Qualcomm has introduced its new AI Engine technology that will be support multi-modal generative AI models, including popular large language models (LLM), language vision models (LVM), and transformer network-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) up to 10B parameters — solely on-device.

The company stated that their Stable Diffusion technology, which is recognized as the world’s fastest, let’s you to produce images in mere moments. It allows for the rapid creation of multiple choices to select from, or it can also create various social media posts in an instant.

In terms of new LLM models Qualcomm said that it can run up to 20 tokens/sec*, one of the fastest in the smartphone industry, so your personal AI assistant can respond to you instant.

Apart from such, Qualcomm has also introduced Sensing Hub with 3.5x AI performance increase and the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU performance is 98% faster with up to 40% performance/watt improvements compared to the predecessor.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s ISP has received a significant enhancement, primarily due to the synergy between the AI units and the ISP. Qualcomm introduced the triple-ISP architecture last year, and the latest development elevates the Cognitive ISP architecture to new heights. It’s now capable of conducting real-time semantic segmentation involving up to 12 layers, effectively isolating distinct image elements and applying colors with precision.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm leverages the cutting-edge Snapdragon X75 5G modem, delivering remarkable speeds with up to 10Gbps for downloads and 3.5Gbps for uploads. Furthermore, the device boasts Wi-Fi 7 support, enabling speeds of up to 5.8Gbps, and is compatible with Bluetooth 5.4 and LE. Qualcomm has also introduced Snapdragon Seamless, a feature that seamlessly facilitates tasks like file sharing and screen mirroring between Android and Windows laptops, when paired with PC chips such as the Snapdragon X Elite.

When will the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 come out?

Global OEMs and renowned brands, such as ASUS, Honor, iQOO, MEIZU, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE, have officially confirmed their adoption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform. Anticipate the arrival of the first commercial devices from these partners in the weeks ahead.
