Reliance Jio made a groundbreaking announcement today, revealing their successful demonstration of ‘JioSpaceFiber,’ India’s first ever satellite-based gigabit fiber service at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023. This innovative service aims to bring high-speed broadband connectivity throughout India, effectively expanding internet access.
Furthermore, Reliance Jio has assured that ‘JioSpaceFiber’ will be made accessible to consumers and businesses across the entire nation at exceptionally affordable rates. With a vast user base of over 450 million consumers, Reliance Jio has established itself as a leading provider of high-speed fixed-line and wireless broadband services in India.
The introduction of ‘JioSpaceFiber’ promises to grant users unprecedented access to reliable, low-latency, and high-speed internet, along with entertainment services, irrespective of their geographical location. This endeavor is set to revolutionize connectivity in even the most remote parts of the country.
To facilitate this ambitious project, Reliance Jio has entered into a strategic partnership with SES, a renowned provider of medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology. Leveraging SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Reliance Jio emerges as the sole entity capable of delivering gigabit, fiber-like services from space, ensuring scalability, affordability, and unmatched reliability in broadband services across India.
The initial phase of ‘JioSpaceFiber’ has already connected four remote locations in India, namely Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam. This marks a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide and fostering connectivity in previously hard-to-reach areas.
